AMOUR

Saw AMOUR last night. It's a French film about an elderly man caring for his terminally ill wife. People like to talk about the power of love and sing sunny songs about it but I tell you this, you are NOT in love unless you can watch this movie with your significant other and stay together in spite of it. This movie shows you what REAL love is and the true meaning of the words "in sickness and health." Amour really is a difficult movie to watch. It's slow pace and 2 hour run time combine to make you feel the frustration of every long agonizing moment of the whole ordeal. In lamen's terms, its long, boring and no fun but it's got a reason for it. There are really only 3 actors in this whole film but they all do a great job, especially Emmanuelle Riva who plays the wife and is a shoe in for best actress at the Academy Awards this year. Overall, watching this movie is like caring for a sick loved one. You really don't want to be there, it's painful and depressing but in the end you're the better for it. Amour gets a 4...out of 5.
