LUCY

I just saw LUCY! Yes, I saw the action packed, sci-fi flick that that asks the simple question... "What if they made a sequel to Limitless?" For all intents and purposes, that's what it is, plain and simple- er... wait, let me revise that because this movie is anything but plain and simple. This movie does for Limitless what Crank 2 did for Crank or what Transformers 4 did for 1987's Batteries Not Included. In essence it cranks it up to 11 and breaks the knob off! It's basically the same setup as Limitless with Scarlett Johansson playing the helpless shlub, albeit a smoking hot one, who accidentally ingests an highly dangerous drug that increases her mental acuity 1000 fold. The movie is both visually astounding and pretty well acted but unfortunately, the story lacks any real sense of suspense or a menacing threat to the main character and things get rather unbelievable pretty damn quick for even the most willing audience. All in all its an ok movie to watch but to be honest, I was getting really bored with it after the first half hour which for what this movie started out as, is a major disappointment. I don't think I'd recommend seeing this one in a theater because frankly, there are much better choices this summer even in the eye candy section. Lucy earns itself a 2.5...out of 5.
