Fall 2014 Movie Preview
Well, ladies and gents, fall is upon us. We've finally come to that magical season of
change where we all pull out our jeans and long sleeved shirts, the air starts
to smell crisp and cool and although
we're actually about a week short of the official calendar start date, the
fall movie season has already started.
The autumnal season is a time for great dramas, the big six have made all their summer explosion dollars and now it's time for the arthouse and indy flicks to have a go. It's time to start gearing up to see break out performances by little known actors and game changing performances by established ones. Fall is when we were first introduced to directors like Martin Scorsese (Mean Streets), James Cameron(Terminator) and Quinton Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs). Fall is when we first met iconic characters like Tyler Durden, Bill the Butcher, John Rambo and Sarah Conner. Conceptual films start showing up, period pieces and films about introspection and self-realization are abound matching the somberness of the new season. Fall is not without it's fun however, we all got our first look into twisted minds of killers like Jigsaw and Freddy Kruger in the fall and laughed out loud at Steve Martin and John Candy as they trekked cross-country in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
But it's not all about the movies we go to see, the people we go to see them with seem just a little bit different too. Our family members seem to start showing up a little more often. We sit a little closer to our significant others and the dates we go on in general seem to matter just a little bit more than they did a few months ago. So as we head towards the later part of the year, somewhere in-between getting all worked up tailgating in the football stadium parking lot, working on your Halloween costume and slaving over a stove to make that massive Thanksgiving dinner, make sure to take yourself some time and spend it with someone you love at the movies.
So, without further ado, here is my list of movies that I am most looking forward to this fall season.
