THIS IS THE END

I saw THIS IS THE END this past weekend. If you liked Pineapple Express or Superbad or even something like Hot Fuzz to a degree then you'll really like this. Its a very unique story about actors locked inside a friend's house during the apocalypse and not just any run of the mill zombies/asteroid apocalypse I mean the Biblical Apocalypse! Seth Rogen, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill and literally dozens of cameos by equally impressive names come together to make probably the funniest, dirtiest, most juvenile, jaw-droppingly ridiculous, self aware improv stoner comedy of all time. This movie is less of a movie and more like 2 hours of Judd Apatow style improv comedy sketches pieced together around an apocalypse theme. That being said, its really hard to judge this movie on my regular scale. I will say this though, although it loses focus from time to time and is never quite set on what it really wants to do, it kept me laughing pretty hard the whole way through. The script is unique, the special effects are pretty sweet and the third act just had me howling with laughter both at what was on the screen and what the studio let Rogen and Co. get away with! This is definitely one of those midnight movies to see with a bunch of friends and some sort of inebriating substance so I'd say it works best as a redbox/netflix flick. This Is The End gets a 3.5...out of 5.
