50 Classic Horror Films You SHOULDN'T Watch: DON'T WATCH Tremors

We're on the hunt for new scares this Halloween season and as the old saying goes, "there is nothing new under the sun." They never said anything about under the ground though. That is a completely different story. Though you may be able to make a case for the monsters in 1984's Dune, I personally consider the king of the underground monsters to be that Perfection born Precambrian worm the graboid. We first saw that devilish dirt denizen in 1990's Tremors sucking down harmless sheep and desert folks into the sandy Nevada desert never to be seen again and giving adults new motivation to play that childhood favorite "the floor is lava" game.

Though it was under-appreciated when it first debuted, Tremors had a awesome practical effects and a stellar cast including Fred Ward, Kevin Bacon, and who could forget Michael "Family Ties" Gross and country music superstar Reba McEntire playing against type as the gun nut survivalists Burt and Heather Gummer. As much as I truly love this film, and believe me I do, I even like the second one which really isn't as bad as some may lead you to believe but I digress. As much as I love this film, I have some different flicks for you to try out this Halloween.

THE HOST. The host is a South Korean monster movie about a dim-witted slacker and his family trying to save his daughter from the clutches of a mutant river monster who attacks and kidnaps her after rampaging through a local park. The movie stars Song Kang-ho, known for films like The Good, The Bad and the Weird, Thirst and Memories of a Murder, and has without a doubt one of the best, most real looking monster rampage scenes you'll ever see. Check it out if you have a chance.

GRABBERS. Grabbers centers around a pair of mismatched police inspectors, played by Richard Coyle and Ruth Bradley, who are investigating the sudden appearance of strange squid-like creatures that have been attacking the citizens of a small Irish hamlet. On the surface this movie feels a lot like Tremors in Ireland and to tell the truth, it pretty much is as far as plot goes, but there's a lot more fun to this tale than that. It's got a sense of humor to it not unlike something you'd see in Edgar Wright directed films like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. The cast is colorful, the effects are spectacular and added ability to turn this movie into a drinking game makes it a top pick for your Halloween party this year.

C.H.U.D. It stands for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller. What it is however will make you want to steer clear of manholes forever! C.H.U.D. is an alumni of that famous year in cinema 1984 and tells the disgusting story of grizzly and stomach churning murders under the streets of New York City perpetrated by certain underground mutants, the four random people that found out the truth and the city officials that try to keep a lid on it all as the violence spills onto the streets. It would appear that there is more than just your garden variety ninjitsu trained turtles lurking in the underground tunnels of the big apple and they ain't ordering pizza! This is one of those great monster movies of the 80's that just doesn't seem to get it's proper due these days on the Top 10 lists but today I'm going to try to correct that mistake. The cast is pretty notable too and includes names like Daniel Stern, John Heard with cameos by a young Jay Thomas and John Goodman. If you're a fan of that old, dark and scary version of New York City where everything seemed to be wet and covered in trash, this is a horror movie for you.
