50 Classic Horror Films You SHOULDN'T Watch: DON'T WATCH Evil Dead 2

If thy left hand offends thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Jesus said in the good book. Matthew chapter 5 verse 29. Far be it from me to argue with the Tetragrammaton in the flesh. He didn't say anything about attaching a chainsaw where your hand used to be though. A lot of you out there already know where I'm going with this and while some may say it's a bit early to come out swinging against the "master of the house" Ash Williams but I say it had to happen sooner or later so we might as well get after it now. As sacrilegious as it sounds, I'm telling you to skip watching Evil Dead 2 this Halloween. Evil Dead 2 is un-questionably the king of creepy cabin movies. It's actually a remake of the original Evil Dead which was a low budget horror movie that was redone as soon as the film makers got more money except they did it bigger and crazier so the end product had 100% of the original horror elements of the first one and 100% cheesiness that set the bar for every horror comedy since. I know I probably can't sway your allegiance to Evil Dead 2 but if you are up for something more to add to your experience check out these extra movies.

EVIL DEAD. No I'm not recommending you watch the same movie. Evil Dead is actually a sequel to the original Evil Dead trilogy but it's done in the same style of Evil Dead 2 in that it's a remake of the very first THE Evil Dead film which was a straight forward, completely serious horror film. The 2013 version does have a lot of carefully selected elements of the second movie which make it a film that's 90% horror with 10% comedy mixed in for a little flavor. If you haven't seen it yet, seriously, take the time to look at it because it's in my top 5 of favorite horror films of the last 15 years.

IDLE HANDS. Idle Hands is a dusty piece of 90s history that is probably doomed to rot somewhere between The Rage: Carrie 2, PCU and old Bevis and Butthead clips. While some may think it deserves to rot there, I say it should be celebrated. The 90s was a strange time in movies where the darkness of grunge music fused with morbid humor, political apathy, elements of horror and a lot of drug use to create a 10 year span of flannel and ripped jeans that was the MTV generation. With the millennium and 9/11 coming up, Idle Hands was one of the last gasps of the era of Cobain, Metallica and Tarantino. The movie starred a number of modern heavyweights and 90's "it" boys including Devon Sawa, Seth Green, Jessica Alba, Elden Henson, Steve Van Wormer and Vivica Fox. The story is about a slacker, played by Sawa, who's hand gets possessed by evil forces and runs amok killing everyone it comes in contact with despite it's owner's firm objections. This is one of the massively overlooked horror comedies of the era and seeing as 1999 was a year choked with memorable movies, it's easy to see how this movie went under the radar. Still, the movie is worth revisiting at least just this once as it is one of my favorite Halloween party movies.
